Section 1 Level 1

Defending a Knife Attack Using Any Solid Object —

Step 1 — Create a Barrier With Your Object Hold your object (bag, jacket, book, etc.) between you and the knife. Keep your arms slightly bent and your stance mobile. Your goal is to block the line of attack and protect your body.

Step 2 — Attack the Knife Hand With the Object Use the object to strike, hit, or knock the attacker’s knife hand. Aim to disrupt their grip and break their rhythm. Keep the object between you and the blade at all times.

Step 3 — Maintain the Barrier After striking, keep the object up as a shield. Do not lower it or try to grab the knife. Your priority is distance and protection, not disarming.

Step 4 — Groin Kick Where Possible (Training‑Safe Targeting) If the attacker is close enough, deliver a fast groin kick (simulated in training by kicking the inner thigh or lower abdomen). This disrupts their balance and creates a chance to escape.

Step 5 — Move Off‑Line and Create Distance Step to the side rather than straight back. Use your object to push the attacker away while you move. Your goal is to break contact quickly.

Step 6 — Exit Immediately Once you have space, turn and leave the area. Keep your object between you and the attacker until you are safely away.

Step 7 — Scan Look around for:

  • Additional threats

  • Safe exits

  • People who can help
