Ground Release From Side Choke
Step 1 — Protect and Control the Choking Hand Use a C‑grip (thumb and fingers forming a “C”) to grab the attacker’s choking hand. Pull the hand down and away from your neck to release the pressure.
Step 2 — Throat Jab Push (Training‑Safe Targeting) With your free hand, deliver a short palm jab to the attacker’s upper chest or collarbone in training. This simulates the real‑world throat push safely and creates immediate distance. Maintain control of the attacker’s hand with your C‑grip.
Step 3 — Lift Your Knee Between You and the Attacker Bring your near knee up between you and the attacker. This forms a knee shield, protecting your torso and preparing for kicks.
Step 4 — Push the Attacker Away Use your knee shield and your controlled hand to push the attacker backward. Your goal is to create enough space to strike and escape.
Step 5 — Kick the Face (Training‑Safe Targeting) With your other leg, deliver a strong kick toward the attacker’s shoulder or upper chest in training. This simulates a face kick safely and forces the attacker further away.
Step 6 — Continue Kicking Until the Attacker Falls Back Use repeated kicks to keep the attacker off you. Only stop once the attacker is down or far enough away for you to get up safely.
Step 7 — Get Up in Retreat Perform a safe get‑up:
-
Keep one leg extended toward the attacker
-
Push off your hand and planted foot
-
Rise into a balanced stance while moving backward
Step 8 — Create Distance & Scan Step back, keep your hands up, and scan your surroundings. Look for safety, exits, or additional threats.
